Je had aan de ene kant de Verenigde Staten van Amerika &#8211; wat je kende van radio en televisie &#8211; en aan de andere kant die duistere, onmetelijk grote Sovjet Unie.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Precies 25 jaar na historische gebeurtenissen fiets ik daar nu rond. Op 23 augustus 1989 namen twee miljoen mensen elkaar bij de hand om een 600-kilometer lange menselijke ketting van Tallin (Estland), via Riga (Letland) naar Vilnius (Litouwen) te vormen.<br \/>\nToen er in 1989 democratische veranderingen in Polen, Hongarije en Tsjecho-Slowakije werden doorgevoerd, gingen de Baltische staten nog volledig gebukt onder het Russische regime.<\/p>\n<p><strong>De moderniteit<br \/>\n<\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nicomokveld.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riga-Bridge.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-18824\" src=\"http:\/\/www.nicomokveld.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riga-Bridge-225x149.jpg\" alt=\"Riga Bridge\" width=\"225\" height=\"149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.nicomokveld.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riga-Bridge-225x149.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.nicomokveld.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riga-Bridge-150x100.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.nicomokveld.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riga-Bridge-560x373.jpg 560w, https:\/\/www.nicomokveld.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riga-Bridge-320x213.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.nicomokveld.nl\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Riga-Bridge.jpg 1366w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Hoe anders is het nu.
