De omliggende dorpen van de Syrische stad Manbij werden vrijdag bevrijd uit handen van IS. Lange tijd werden de vrouwen in die omgeving gedwongen een niqaab te dragen; een zwart gewaad dat niets anders dan de ogen vrijhoudt. Rodi Said, een fotograaf van Reuters, fotografeerde er de vrouwen na de bevrijding. Te zien is hoe een vrouw haar niqaab van zich afgooit, terwijl haar buurvrouwen, die haar reeds voor zijn gegaan, haar in hun gekleurde kleding toelachen. (bronbericht)
